Can I install and set up my Braille printer by myself, or do I need professional assistance?
It is very simple to set up your Braille Printer. It has plug and play features which will allow you to you a printer
wizard. Simply follow the wizard. It takes up to 2 minutes for the entire process.
Do Index Braille Embossers print complex math?
Complex math is usually written by the Braille Translation software. Once the software converts math problems into
Braille, the embosser will emboss the braille numbers, signs or symbols transmitted to it by the software.
Can I use my Braille printer if I have an older model computer with a parallel port?
Yes. All Index Embossers have parallel ports.
How many words (characters?) print per page on the Basic-D Braille embosser?
The two most common paper sizes are 8.5 x 11, which can emboss up to 32 characters per line, and 26 lines per
page, and 11.5 x 11 which can emboss up to 42 characters per line and 26 lines per page.
How do I select the best Braille printer for my needs?
If you are in an environment that requires thousands of pages per week, you might want to look into purchasing a
production Braille embosser. Most Braille Embosser users can adequately meet their needs with an embosser that
embosses at least 80 to 100 Characters per second (CPS) such as the Basic-D embosser. Please call a Brailler
Depot representative with any detailed questions you may have on selecting the right braille embosser for your
needs.
What is the difference between the older model Index Braille printers and the newer model?
Most of the time, when someone says "old model", they are referring to version 2 braille printer which does not
support direct network connectivity or USB. Its ports are simply serial and parallel. The 'newer' braille printers
(version 3) support Parallel, Ethernet and USB. There are also many new features in the version 3 model.
Do I need special adapters to connect an Index Braille printer to my computer?
No. Every embosser includes a USB cable that is compatible with your personal computer.
What is Braille translation software?
Braille Translation Software is a software that converts regular print into Braille (and vice versa), and also provides
word-processing facilities for working directly in Braille documents as well as printed documents.
How do I upgrade my early model Index Braille Embosser to a more recent model?
In order to upgrade, your Index braille embosser must have firmware version 10.03 or higher. You can go to
http:
//www.thebraillerdepot.com/Manuals/ProductManuals.html and download the desired firmware package on to
your computer. You must also install the Utility. If you have Windows XP, you can download utility 3.0. If you're using
Vista you must download the 'Download Manager' first. You would need utility 5.0. From you're utility, import the
desired firmware, then choose 'send to embosser'. Your machine will beep for about 5 minutes. Then it will be silent
for about 1 minute, then you will hear the new firmware version.
What software do I need to install on my personal computer in order to use an Index Braille embosser?
Every Braille embosser is delivered with a CD that includes Braille printer drivers. This all you will need to set up
your printer and begin printing documents.
What is the difference between a braille embosser and a braille printer?
There is no difference between a braille embosser and braille printer.  The two terms are interchangeable.
